regenerative art

'regenerative' practices go beyond 'sustainability' by aiming to actively heal the planet, and i use my art to explore what this means

as a small part of this, i plant one tree and additionally remove 1kg carbon from the atmosphere for every order - in partnership with ecologi - and i will never use animal products, petroleum-based products (such as acrylic paint), or ai in my work

2024

- mixed media graphite / digital -

this collection depicts wild animals using renewable and recycled natural materials; available as affordable open edition lithographic prints to widely inspire a collective love for the natural world

printed in the uk on FSC-certified recycled card, using 100% renewable energy and plant-based ink

2025

- charcoal -

available as open edition relief prints, this collection is hand-printed in small batches using non-toxic, plant-based, compostable ink (which i make myself!)

commercially-available printmaking inks are typically petroleum-based and manufacturers are not required to list all ingredients, making it difficult to fully understand the environmental impact

for the prints in this collection, i make my own ink using only two ingredients (charcoal powder and heated linseed oil) so that i know exactly what is going into my work and can be certain that it is safe for the environment and for people

i also hope this collection brings a bit of playfulness into the world :p

2026

- nature -

while previous work has used renewable materials and relied on subject matter to spread regenerative values, this collection explores how materials themselves can be directly regenerative and actively contribute to the world in a healing way, rather than taking from it

renewable materials still place a demand on the planet by using land for cycles of production and harvest instead of leaving wild natural landscapes as they are, or restoring them

regenerative materials actively heal the planet - perhaps by contributing to rewilding and biodiversity, or by removing pollution/waste from the environment for example

using a mix of natural, plant-based materials either cultivated, reclaimed, or borrowed from nature without causing harm (mixed native seeds, found wood, cultivated moss, and homemade plant-based glue), these artworks will one day be returned to the earth and have a positive, regenerative impact

as an extension of my art practice, i offer landscape and architectural design rooted in regenerative practices and permaculture principles

i trained for 6 years in architecture and landscape design, qualifying with a masters degree in architecture from the University of Bath (MArch Hons) in 2023

future work

- community -

i'm beginning to explore the idea that regenerative art is not product-based, but more a passing, lived experience which is rooted in community

the interdependence of life is one of the core inspirations of regenerative design and my future work will explore this

regenerative art - perhaps this could be storytelling, dance, music, or theatre, etc. - should be a process of co-creation with other humans and with nature

i'm also drawn to the practice of 'forest bathing' as a living experience of the art of nature itself - all the sounds, smells, colours, and textures

perhaps my role as a regenerative artist is not actually to create art but to guide people through an experience of the artistry that exists all around us in nature

this won't directly heal the earth, but it may help heal our relationship with her and with each other, and i believe this kind of art - as a collective and impermanent experience - very much belongs in a regenerative world
